Spicy Chawli (black eyed-pea)

The mint flavor chawli will awaken your senses and the flavor of spices will give you irresistible joy. You can either use dry mint leaves or regular mint leaves depending on the availability. Try out this unique recipe.

Serves 4
Ingredients:
2 cups boiled black-eyed pea
2 teaspoons salt
2 tablespoon oil
1 cup finely chopped celery or cabbage
1 ½ cups tomato puree
1 teaspoon dry fenugreek leaves
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 cup fresh mint leaves or 3/4 cup dry mint leaves
1 tablespoon of chopped ginger
2 big green chilies

Process: Boil 4 tomatoes for 10 minutes and peel off the skin. Blend it into a smooth paste and then strain it. The filtered form is used as tomato puree.
Use a little water and make a smooth paste of mint leaves, lemon juice, ginger and green chilies.
Heat oil in a medium saucepan, cook the celery for 2 minutes on medium heat.
Add the puree, salt, turmeric powder, fenugreek leaves and cook for 5 minutes on medium heat.
Add the peas, mint paste, cook and bring it to a boil while stirring occasionally.  After boiling reduce the heat to medium and cook for few minutes. Turn off the stove and serve hot with rice or chapatis.
